OKCPS Names Deborah Deck as Chief Operations Officer

Chronicle News Services

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) has announced the appointment of Deborah Deck as Chief Operations Officer (COO).  Deck has been serving as Interim COO and now officially steps into the role, bringing a wealth of operational expertise, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to the district’s mission.

Deck began her career at OKCPS in 2017 as a Bilingual Receptionist for the Operations Center and quickly advanced through a series of leadership roles.  Her work has spanned risk management, capital projects, and facility planning, which resulted in her leadership of the district’s Building the Future (BTF) Bond program.  As Executive Director of Bond & Capital Projects, she oversaw the planning, design, and construction of major district initiatives, including transformational and signature projects, preventive maintenance, and other critical infrastructure efforts.

Her contributions extend beyond construction and planning. Deck chaired the Learning-Ready Facilities dimension of the OKCPS Student Experience & Equity Committee and served as the 8th Grade Parent Representative for the Norman Public Schools Gifted and Talented Committee.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration & Transportation from Sacred Heart University in Puerto Rico and a Master’s degree in Architecture from Hampton University, an HBCU.  In 2022, she earned her Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification and maintains active membership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

“Deborah’s journey through OKCPS reflects her remarkable dedication, innovative thinking, and strong leadership,” said OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Jamie Polk.  “From risk management to leading our Building the Future Bond program, she has shaped both the physical and strategic foundation of our district.  We are proud to welcome her as our Chief Operations Officer to continue advancing the work that supports every student’s success.”

As part of the district’s continued alignment with recently adopted Board Goals and Guardrails, OKCPS has also updated the titles of some district staff within the superintendent’s leadership team.  These updates reflect the responsibilities these individuals have already been carrying out and are designed to bring greater clarity and consistency to the district’s organizational structure.

“These changes aren’t about new roles, they’re about naming the work that’s already happening,” said Dr Polk.  “As we sharpen our focus on student outcomes, it’s important that our leadership structure reflects the strategies we’re putting into action.”

OKCPS remains committed to transparency, strategic alignment, and celebrating the people who make progress possible.
