(The Center Square) – The electors for Arizona will formally gather next week to cast their votes for the presidency.
Electors in all 50 states will meet on Tuesday as the next step in the process after President-elect Donald Trump won the election last month. Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the Grand Canyon State by more than 187,000 votes.
“Recent recounts have confirmed the integrity of our elections, showing they’re as solid now as in 2020 and 2022,” Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said in a statement on Friday. “As the electors conduct their constitutional duty, it’s clear: our systems work. Let’s work together to move forward, focused on strengthening our democracy and honoring our commitment to the truth.”
According to a news release, the electors will take an oath, and Fontes will sign off on a certificate to send to officials in Washington D.C. ahead of Congress to tally up the electoral votes on Jan. 6.
As Trump won the state, the Republican electors are Abegal Gonzalez, Belinda Rodriguez, Dottie Lizer, Republican Party Chairwoman Gina Swoboda, Lisa Green, former Navajo Nation Vice President, Myron Lizer, Nathan C. Jackson, Robert L. Swoboda, Steven R. McEwen, Thomas W. Lewis and Trevor Smith, according to the Secretary of State’s website.
The election results were certified in Arizona on Nov. 25, and the results of the few down ballot races that went to recount were released last week. None of the results in those races changed. The state has a 0.5% automatic recount margin.
The president-elect won the Electoral College with 312 electoral votes compared with 226 for Harris. In 2016, there were seven electors deemed “faithless” and backed a candidate besides Trump or then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but it had little impact on the final results.
