Bossier-Caddo Parish ballot measures voters can expect to see this election

(The Center Square) – While the ballots are not packed on Oct. 11, Caddo Parish residents can expect three propositions to vote on, and Bossier Parish residents will vote in a new Police Juror for District 1.

Caddo Parish is voting on two millage continuations and a service charge renewal — all three for Fire District Eight.

Proposition one authorizes the continuation of a 2% sales tax, which is expected to generate $376,000 annually. This money is dedicated to making improvements and maintaining public roads, highways, bridges and drainage systems in the district. The millage would renew at the beginning of next year if passed and last for 10 years.

Proposition two continues to levy 4.16 mills for 10 years, starting in 2029 and ending in 2038. The millage is estimated to generate $156,500 annually from property taxes. Funding from this millage is distributed among many areas, including the improvement and maintenance of the district’s fire protection facilities, water for fire protection and the maintenance and operation of emergency medical facilities.

The third proposition authorizes a service charge renewal for Fire District Eight. The service charge, if approved by voters, would amount to no more than $75 per year per resident or commercial structure for no more than 10 years. The service charge renewal would take effect on Jan. 1, 2030, and generate $228,200 per year. This money pays for fire protection services in the district.

Early voting ends Saturday.
