Illinois governor blasts Trump’s VP selection

(The Center Square) – In the wake of an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Gov. J.B. Pritzker resumed his attacks on the GOP nominee and also his choice for vice president.

Trump unveiled his vice presidential choice just two days after surviving an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania Saturday. Pritzker was at an unrelated press conference Tuesday when he was asked to comment on Trump’s running mate Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.

“The fact is that he is someone who has very extremist views,” Pritzker said. “As you may know he is not just anti-choice against reproductive rights but he also thinks that if you have been raped or have had incest committed against you, that you should be forced to have that child.”

Pritzker has not hidden the fact that Illinois has become a safe haven for women seeking an abortion.

When asked about the assassination attempt on Trump, the governor took the opportunity to attack the former president.

“Donald Trump is a convicted felon, an adjudicated rapist, has been a congenital liar, and is unfit for the office of president,” said Pritzker. “Having said that, I am very pleased that he remains relatively unharmed.”

Vance himself faced criticism in the wake of the shooting for a post on X that suggested President Joe Biden was to blame for the violence.

“The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” Vance wrote. “That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.”

The Republican National Convention continues this week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
