Poll: Head-to-head tie in presidential sampling

(The Center Square) – President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are tied when paired head-to-head in the latest sampling from the Marquette Law School Poll.

Results were released Thursday.

When the question of choice includes Robert Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein and Cornel West, Trump leads Biden 40%-37%. Kennedy is next at 17%, and Stein and West each are at 3%.

Trump’s lead is 51%-49% among likely voters.

The new poll shows very little movement compared to Marquette’s last poll back in March. In popularity, Biden is about four points lower than Trump.

Vice President Kamala Harris is the worst popularity rating at -24. Biden is -21, Trump -17.

Polll authors say, “Biden’s net favorability has fallen from -5 in November 2021 to -21 in the current survey. Trump’s net favorability has improved from -34 in November 2021 to -17 in the current poll.”

In job approval, Biden is 40% with 60% disapproving.

Poll results indicate respondents believe Trump would do a better job of handling immigration and border security, the economy, handling the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and foreign relations. Voters say Biden would do a better job with Medicare and Social Security, health care, abortions, and ensuring fair and accurate elections.

Wisconsin is considered a swing state in November. Biden won the state 49.5%-48.8% in 2020. Trump clipped Hillary Clinton 47.2%-46.5% in 2016.

The poll of 902 registered voters nationwide was conducted May 6-15. The margin of error is +/- 4.6 percentage points. For likely voters, the sample size is 684 with a margin of error of +/- 5.2 percentage points. For all adults the sample size is 1,033 with a margin of error of +/- 4.3 percentage points.
