Poll worker under investigation in Fulton County

(The Center Square) – A Fulton County poll worker is accused of scanning multiple ballots during the Dec. 2 election, prompting an investigation by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office and a recount by the Fulton County Board of Elections.

The poll worker scanned four additional ballots, but it did not change the election results, Nadine Williams, director of Fulton County Elections, told the board.

The incident happened at the Dobbs Elementary School polling location. The only elections on the ballot were for an at-large and District 6 Atlanta City Council seats. Williams said the elections board was going to do a complete recount, which was completed on Monday without any changes to the election results.

“Unfortunately, when situations like this happen the losing candidates of other races are going to say ‘How do I know it wasn’t impacting my race.'” Williams said. “So because of that we want to go ahead and do all the races.”

The investigation is ongoing, according to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

“But these allegations are a serious breach of the public trust placed in poll officials,” Raffensperger said. “I’m calling on the investigation to be completed quickly and for any violations of law to be prosecuted swiftly.”

The name of the poll worker was not released.
