(The Center Square) – Voter registration trends of increases rather than decreases are poised to resume after a third consecutive week with declines overall and for each major voting bloc.
Overall registrations went down 1,175, the unaffiliated bloc 718, Republicans 279 and Democrats 156 for totals released Saturday by the State Board of Elections. In a state of more than 7.7 million registrations, there is little change to the percentage shares – unaffiliated is 39.2% (3,020,728), Republicans 30.1% (2,322,025) and Democrats 30% (2,313,377).
For Democrats, it’s the seventh straight week of losses; for Republicans, it’s three in a row after last week being the first since Nov. 1.
The state’s primaries were Tuesday of last week and overseas and military ballots to be counted must be in county election offices by Thursday. The canvass is Friday.
