(The Center Square) – Voter registrations in North Carolina remain down for a fourth consecutive week, according to the State Board of Elections.
The trend includes each of the major voting blocs. Because of work for the county boards of election leading up to the primary and coming out of it, the declines are not totally unexpected, politicos say.
Overall registrations went down 1,021; the unaffiliated bloc 360; Republicans 358; and Democrats 305.
As updated Saturday, the state has more than 7.7 million registrations. The shares are virtually unchanged – unaffiliated is 39.2% (3,020,368), Republicans 30.1% (2,321,667) and Democrats 30% (2,313,072).
For Democrats, it’s the eighth consecutive week of losses; for Republicans, it’s four in a row after only gains since Nov. 1.
The state’s primary Election Day was March 3, canvass was this past Friday, and recount requests are due to the state board by noon Tuesday.
