Republican Fuller wins Greene’s former congressional seat

(The Center Square) – Republican Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Clay Fuller won Georgia’s 14th Congressional District seat on Tuesday, staving off Democrat Shawn Harris.

The Associated Press and CNN called the race for Fuller before 8:30 p.m., within 90 minutes of polls closing. Returns from Republican strongholds of Murray and Walker counties spurred lifted Fuller to the decision. At 8:26 p.m., Fuller had 55.89% of the vote compared to Harris’ 44.11%.

Harris’ only leads when the race was called were in Cobb, Paulding and Whitfield counties. He was leading in Floyd County early in the race, but his lead was erased as more ballots were counted.

Fuller had the backing of second-term Republican President Donald Trump, who on Monday encouraged his social media followers to get out and vote for Fuller.

The post was formerly held by Rome Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene. She resigned in January following a public feud with Trump. Greene did not endorse anyone in the race.

Harris, a cattle farmer and Army veteran from Cedartown, challenged Greene in the 2024 general election and received 35% of the votes cast.

The 14th Congressional District includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties, and portions of Cobb County.
