Trump leads DeSantis in home state

(The Center Square) – Early polling found that Florida Republicans strongly favor former President Donald Trump over Florida governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2023 presidential primary.

A Florida Atlantic University Mainstreet PolCom Lab poll showed that when asked who they would support if the primary were held today, 50% of registered Republican voters said they would vote for Trump and only 30% favored DeSantis.

The third favorite candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, had only four percent of the poll’s support.

“The poll highlights Donald Trump’s quite durable support,” said Kevin Wagner, a professor of political science at FAU. “He does especially well with white working-class voters, who have consistently formed a steadfast base for the former President.”

The poll also showed a heavy split in support for DeSantis’ job as governor, with 41% strongly approving of his handling of the job and 34% strongly disapproving. Similarly, when asked opinions on Trump, only 33% were strongly favorable while 38% were strongly unfavorable.
