Trump wins in Nevada GOP caucus

Date:

(The Center Square) – Former President Donald Trump won Nevada’s Republican caucus on Thursday, likely securing all of the party’s 26 delegates.

Trump received 97.6% of the vote, as of 9:15 p.m. MT. The only other candidate, Ryan Binkley, who had 2.4%.

Trump did not appear on the non-binding Republican primary ballot on Tuesday. Nikki Haley, who placed second in the primary behind the option “none of these candidates,” wasn’t on the Republican caucus ballot.

Over 63% of voters opted for “none of these candidates,” while 30% voted for Haley in the Republican primary.

The unusual results stem from Nevada passing a law requiring “Presidential Preference Primaries” in 2021. The Nevada GOP sued over the requirement, with a judge allowing the party to still hold caucuses in addition to the required primaries. The party restricts candidates from participating in both votes.
