sitharaman: Ethanol Units: Fm To Push For Bank Loans | Patna News

Patna: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit the state next month and address the concerns of the state government regarding problems related to bank loans faced by investors who have submitted proposals for establishing ethanol production units in Bihar.
On the other hand, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan has agreed to consider the request of Patna campus of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) for early regularisation of the 2022 academic sessions for postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
Both Sitharaman and Pradhan expressed their willingness to consider the twin issues in their interaction with state’s deputy CM-cum-finance minister Tarksihore Prasad, when he made separate courtesy calls on them in Delhi on Saturday.
Prasad pleaded with Sitharaman that the investors willing to make investments in the ethanol production plants with production capacity of 30 to 50 kilolitres per day had been facing problems in getting bank loans for their units.
It was a pressing problem that needed to be resolved, as state eyes to emerge as ethanol production hub in the country, Prasad told Sitharaman and also requested her that the quota for ethanol production be increased to 65 kilolitre per day. In the process, Prasad also extended an invitation to her to visit the state, to which Sitharaman gave her consent.
Prasad also informed Sitharaman about the strength of the state in the agro-based sector, and said production in agriculture and allied activities, like cattle rearing, fishery and dairy, even during the coronavirus pandemic, helped the state in maintaining its growth rate. He said special steps should be taken to further strengthen this sector in the state.
In his interaction with Pradhan, Prasad told him that the Patna campus of BIT, which had been established in 2006, has fixed the academic session and start of the admission process for the postgraduate courses from May 2022, and for the undergraduates from June 22.
Noting that the BIT’s Patna campus has already sought permission for the two proposals, Prasad pleaded with Pradhan for the early grant of permission to streamline the academic activities on the campus.
