South Florida site proposed for Trump Presidential Library

(The Center Square) – A land transfer proposal for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library is to be considered next week when Florida’s Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund convenes.

Second-term Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said he favors conveying a 2.63-acre parcel in Miami-Dade County adjacent to the Freedom Tower. The land is an employee parking lot for the Wolfson Campus of Miami-Dade College in Miami.

Florida could become the 11th state to house a 14th presidential library. Texas has three, California two, and eight states each have one.

“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” DeSantis said. “No state has better delivered the president’s agenda than the free state of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”

Trump, 79, is in his second term at the White House. He’s a native of the Queens Borough of New York City; graduate of the University of Pennsylvania; and grew his business empire from his father’s real estate company in Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn to his Trump Organization with presence in more than a dozen countries worldwide.

DeSantis, in his role as governor, is chairman of the board for the trust fund. Other members are Attorney General James Uthmeier, Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson.

The proposed location is about 70 miles south of Mar-a-Lago Club where the president resides.
