Election 2024: Doherty bids to unseat Collins in 10th Congressional

(The Center Square) – Republican incumbent Mike Collins is bidding to win his second term in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, while Lexy Doherty is running for change.

As “Georgia’s conservative businessman,” Collins said he is “on a mission” to reform Washington. Doherty’s priorities include rural economic development, health care, and “bodily autonomy and privacy.”

“Freedom is what guides my thinking on most issues,” Doherty told The Center Square. “Freedom means women not having their government tell them what they can do with their bodies. It means that our children are safe from gun violence. Freedom is not having your vote nullified by an election board or other bad actors.”

Collins, first elected in the 2022 midterms, went unchallenged in his primary. Doherty won her primary against Jessica Fore with 59% of the vote.

Collins ended the period with $551,000 cash on hand, after raising $1.3 million and spending $900,000. Doherty raised $31,000 and had less than $1,000 left on June 30, which was the end of the second fundraising quarter.

In 2023, Collins won the primary with 65% of the vote. Redistricting has been implemented, and Collins remains favored.

Doherty said she presents a policy alternative for voters by prioritizing “protecting our democracy,” ending “climate change,” and promoting abortion access.

“Congressman Collins, my opponent, doesn’t seem to share any of my concern for regular families here in northeast Georgia,” she told The Center Square.

Collins said that, as a representative, he works both for the families of District 10 and to “disrupt business-as-usual in the swamp.”

“As a long-haul trucker, he knows what it means to take on a challenge. He isn’t afraid of hard work,” his campaign website says. “He’s fighting every day to put an end to the status quo in our nation’s capital and restore America back to its former glory.”

Collins has backed former President Donald Trump, supported ending illegal immigration, and is against the Biden administration’s “liberal activism.”
