Georgia gas prices up slightly; possible tariffs cause concern

(The Center Square) – Georgia gas prices are up a penny to $2.94 a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA.

However, things could change.

“Crude oil prices have not seen a significant change this week,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Therefore, Georgia pump prices remain steady for the most part. However, there is an impending concern that tariffs may cause an increase in gas prices across the country. Right now, it is just too early to predict.”

Gas prices have held steady for the past four weeks. A regular unleaded gallon of gas costs $2.93 a month ago, according to AAA.

Last year, Georgia motorists were paying 8 cents more. Motorists with 15-gallon tanks are paying $44.10 for a tank of regular unleaded, according to AAA.

The least expensive gas is near the Tennessee border in Catoosa, Dade and Walker counties at $2.81. Tennessee gas prices were averaging at $2.77 a gallon.

Savannah has the most expensive fuel at $3.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

The national average is $3.13, a 4-cent hike from last week, according to AAA. The demand for gas increased from 8.3 million barrels to 8.32, according to the Energy Information Administration.

California has the highest gas prices in the country at an average of $4.63 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Motorists in two other states are paying more than $4 a gallon. Gas prices in Hawaii are at $4.55, and Washington state residents pay $4.04, according to AAA.
