(The Center Square) – A Georgia man pleaded guilty to making false statements to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and bank fraud.
Spencer Askew, former CEO of E-Freight Solutions Worldwide, LLC, told a federal special agent in July 2020 that he could supply the VA with KN95-like masks through a relationship he had with manufacturer 3M, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. The claim was false, according to the office.
In a separate case, Askew lied to the Bank of Vinings about a $1 million line of credit in 2018, saying it was to acquire another logistics company, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office. The money was for another company, Techknowlogi Holdings, that Askew had founded. Askew submitted false information about Techknowlogi, according to the release.
Askew was arrested in Arizona in April 2024 after crossing the border from Mexico, the office said.
“Askew can no longer avoid the consequences of engaging in a fraudulent scheme that resulted in the loss of millions of dollars and of aggravating his criminal conduct by making false statements to law enforcement,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 15 on the two charges.
