Bossier Parish $8.4M asphalt overlay project ahead of schedule

(The Center Square) – An $8.4 million asphalt overlay happening in Bossier Parish on U.S. 80 is estimated to finish ahead of schedule next month.

Nearly 5 miles of road was repaired starting in April of this year. With an original completion date of early 2026, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that the contractor is expected to finish next month.

The busy stretch services roughly 26,000 drivers per day in the parish.

The $8.4 million has gone toward full-depth patching, milling of old asphalt, new asphalt paving, signage and road striping from Flat River to Merrywoods Boulevard. Paving is complete, and the contractor is striping the roads, adding the necessary signage and placing traffic signal loop detectors.

Other projects happening in the area include continued work on the major I-20 project costing $127 million. This project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, after nearly two years of construction on this section of the interstate.

The three-phase project is repairing a section of the interstate that serves around 70,000 to 100,000 drivers per day on average.

The project is in its third and final phase as of this week.
