(The Center Square) – Ahead of the first reading of the 2026 budget, the Shreveport City Council may vote to amend various 2025 budgets during Tuesday’s regular session.
Four ordinances propose amending the current year’s budget, but cannot be adopted before Oct. 28. The amendments affect the Capital Projects Fund, Capital Improvements, and MPC Special Revenue Fund budgets.
MPC is the acronym for Metropolitan Planning Commission.
Ordinance 104, one of the four new ordinances, seeks to modify the Capital Projects Fund budget for upgrades to Independence Stadium. If passed, $159,996 in State Treasury funds would be allocated to the stadium upgrade project.
The largest appropriation adds $2.8 million to the new Central Police Headquarters project budget, bringing the total to $31.4 million. The current budget is $28.5 million, which includes 2021 bond proceeds and interest earnings. An increase is reportedly necessary after receiving the current construction estimate.
Ordinance 105 would amend the Capital Projects fund budget to allocate $125,000 in State Treasury funds to the Bayou Pierre Drainage and Recreation project, if approved.
The Metropolitan Planning Commission is seeking a temporary contract employee to bring on until a full-time position is filled at the start of the next year in the 2026 budget. The ordinance would allocate $14,500 from Personal Services to Contractual Services to pay for the contract.
Next year budget ordinances are on Tuesday’s agenda, and these will be adopted on or before Dec. 15.
