Caddo agencies partnering for summer crime prevention activities

(The Center Square) — Caddo Parish agencies are partnering up for the summer to bring different activities and events to the parish during May, June and July to prevent crime and keep kids safe throughout the area.

The agencies participating include Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office, Caddo Parish Juvenile Services and Project Celebration, Inc.

The Center Square reached out to Caddo Parish Director of Communications Krystle Beauchamp and Director of Juvenile Services Andrew Randall, Jr., for more details about event projects and the Safe Summer Crime Prevention Coalition.

Different participating agencies will host activities throughout the summer for little or no cost to families. These activities include the Be S.A.F.E. Summer Nights Program, which offers family-friendly summer activities in a safe environment.

Juvenile Services is responsive to the issues of juvenile crime, according to Randall.

“We’re partnering with Parks and Recreation for our Super Safe Summer program,” Randall told The Center Square previously. “That means that our kids will be participating, whether it’s in the summer camps, whether they are athletic in nature, cultural in nature, or otherwise— To kind of keep kids and their families engaged.”

Randall said this is a big effort for Juvenile Services and others in the coming months.

The coalition aims for its Pull Up and Get Involved program to do quite a few things for the community. Apart from offering a safe and friendly space for kids and teens, the coalition also wants to reduce violent crime in the area, with an emphasis on homicides. The program is also aiming to make crime prevention a priority for the entire parish instead of just intervention.

Other activities families and kids can expect include yoga in the park, morning nature hikes, canoeing, basketball camp, a dance program, tennis camp, football camp, a weightlifting program and others.
