(The Center Square) – Two public hearings are scheduled Thursday for residents of Caddo Parish on two proposed budget amendment ordinances on the Caddo Commission agenda.
The first public hearing is for Ordinance 6563, amending the estimated revenues and expenditures budget for the Riverboat Fund and the Oil and Gas Fund. This appropriation, if passed, would provide $50,000 in additional funding for the Safe Summer Program.
The Safe Summer Program is one of many ways the parish is trying to decrease juvenile crime. The program gives young children and their families the opportunity to participate in summer camps, events and activities.
The commission will take a final vote on the fund appropriation following the public hearing.
Residents will also have the opportunity to speak toward Ordinance 6565, which amends the estimated revenues and expenditures budget for the Economic Development Fund to provide funding for the Christmas in Roseland event.
Ordinance 6565, proposed by the Economic Development Committee, would appropriate $50,000 to the event if passed by the commission after the public hearing.
Ordinance 6567, to be introduced, seeks to amend the 2025 budget’s estimated revenues and expenditures for the Housing Choice Voucher Program Fund.
According to the ordinance, Caddo Parish has continuously received a Section 8 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development since the 1970s. This year, the parish received additional funding prompting a budget amendment. If this ordinance is passed, it would amend the budget by $600,000.
