Caddo Parish crime continues to drop despite an increase in juvenile arrests

(The Center Square) — Caddo Parish has seen a steady decline in crime since 2023, even with the increase in juvenile crime being higher.

Crime statistics from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office show an overall decrease in crime from 2023 to now. In a recent report looking at the last six months, there were 17 offenses of rape and zero homicides in the parish.

While juvenile crime is up with 40 arrests happening this year as of Feb. 21, the total number of offenses for all crimes is 650 as of March 10 for the last six months.

Crime in the parish has been declining for several years. Caddo Sheriff Henry Whitehorn made it a priority when elected in 2024 to make Caddo a safe place for the residents there. Whitehorn put in place many initiatives, including strategies to reduce violent crime in neighborhoods and increased patrols.

In the parish crime statistics from 2023 through July 2024, there were three homicides, 23 rapes, and 255 offenses of simple assault. Over the last six months, the homicide rate is reported lower, but the rape rate is still high, with 17 cases and 140 simple assault cases.
