(The Center Square) — The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office welcomed seven new deputies last week, and this Saturday, they are looking to welcome more with a Corrections Deputy Career Fair.
Officials have discussed how overcrowded the Caddo Correctional Center is for months. The most recent reports from Chief Administrative Officer Erica Bryant show the correctional center had 1,493 inmates. The maximum capacity is 1,500.
The career fair is Saturday at the Caddo Correctional Center from eight to noon.
The seven new deputies sworn in included four in corrections and three in administrative roles.
“The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively recruiting new personnel,” said the office in a news release. “Applicants who are 21 years or older can apply for various positions, including corrections deputies/security, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, building and groundskeepers, and part-time courthouse security personnel.”
This isn’t the first swear-in over the past few months for the Caddo Sheriff’s Office. Whitehorn swore in 10 additional deputies back in June, which included corrections, real-time crime, CCC administrative executive secretary, tax and revenue, finance and food service director positions.
An increase in public safety personnel numbers is happening throughout the area, as the Shreveport Police Department is also seeking additional personnel. The department is actively hiring seven new jailers. The Center Square spoke with a current jailer about her experience in a previous report.
The office has crime initiatives underway as they recruit additional officers, one being the Anglin/Myers Initiative. Just last week, the office held a ceremony at the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. The event honored a $10,000 donation from the Committee of 100.
“This funding will be used to strategically install cameras throughout Caddo Parish. Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr., Chief Smith, along with Ms. Meyers and the Anglin family, accepted the check on behalf of the initiative,” said the office.
