DOTD announces $3.8M road project nearing completion in Caddo Parish

(The Center Square) — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that the $3.8 million State Route 1 Youree Drive asphalt overlay project is nearing completion, with an estimated completion date of June.

The project was announced in January after the DOTD received an additional $7.5 million from the Legislature during the fiscal year 2024-2025. The construction consists of nearly three miles of improvements. Work began back in February on the overlay, with expected lane closures throughout the project.

The major $123 million reconstruction for Interstate 20 in Bossier and Caddo Parish has entered its final stage. The multi-million dollar project began in September of 2023 on a section of the interstate that services 70,000 to 100,000 vehicles, according to the DOTD. JB James Construction, LLC is the current contractor for the reconstruction.

The DOTD estimates the project is at 77% completion. Outside lanes have been removed, and rebuilding has begun. Drainage structures are also being replaced, as well as drainage improvements. At 77% completion, it is expected to be finished by the end of this year or early next year.

Phase one was estimated to last two months, while phase two was eleven months. Phase three is estimated to take around a year.

Additional transportation projects in the area include a $1.5 million safety improvement project to the Interstate 49 Southern Loop in Caddo Parish. Work began on April 10, resulting in a shoulder closer, and a second southbound exit lane is expected to be built. The project is looking to finish up by the Fall.

Funding for roadway projects comes from various sources, including federal grants, DOTD, and local funding from city and parish governments.

According to the Parish of Caddo 2025 Capital Improvement Budget, the Road Treatment Program is the Department of Public Works’ largest capital project. The program includes 51 road repair projects totaling nearly 43 miles in the Parish.
