Police make arrests in connection to Shreveport fight

(The Center Square) — Five people have been arrested in connection with a violent fight that broke out in downtown Shreveport over Halloween weekend.

Public Information Officer Chris Bordelon confirmed to The Center Square that they have been charged with disturbing the peace and are believed to have been involved in the street fight. Three were on active probation when the fight took place.

“Make no mistake — we will not tolerate violence in our downtown,” said Police Chief Wayne Smith. “These five chose to bring fear and disorder to a place meant for families, businesses and visitors. Our detectives worked around the clock, with help from Probation and Parole and specialized units, to identify and locate those responsible.”

The department said citizens assisted in the arrests by providing tips and video evidence.

“Those who commit crimes in Shreveport will face the full, lawful consequences of their actions,” said Smith.

According to reports, the violent fight left one person unconscious after erupting at the intersection of Texas and Spring Street, blocking the flow of traffic.

Footage of the fight spread across social media, prompting the Shreveport City Council to hold a special meeting earlier this week to address safety concerns directly with Chief Smith.
