Shreveport capital projects database shows 17 planned projects, 141 active

(The Center Square) – The Shreveport capital projects database shows 17 planned projects throughout the city, four being to local fire stations.

Station 19, Station 5, Station 6 and Station 7 are on the books to receive “substantial repairs and comprehensive upgrades,” according to the database. The four stations exhibit structural, mechanical and operational deficiencies that limit them from meeting modern-day fire station standards.

The 2024 General Obligation Bond serves as the funding source for each station, with allocated costs totaling $750,000 for the renovations at all four stations. Each fire station renovation is in the planning phase, with a start date and end date not given. The city is still deciding which station will be done first, according to the database.

Each station is set to receive full-service generators as a part of the capital project to provide a source of power during emergencies and natural disasters.

Of the 17 planned projects listed, all are being funded through the 2024 General Obligation Bond approved by voters. However, almost all of the projects are still listed in the planning stage.

The Brush Bayou Ditch Panel Replacement project and Canal Boulevard transportation road project do have an anticipated start date of April 30, 2027. The Financial Plaza Improvements project is anticipated to start on June 30, 2027. The Jewella Avenue Improvements project should begin shortly after that on Dec. 31, 2027.

Despite there being 17 planned projects, there are currently 141 active capital projects in the database – 13 belonging to the 2021 bond year and 128 belonging to the 2024 bond year.

An election was held previously to approve or deny the General Obligation Bond package. To determine how the 2024 bond would be issued, residents voted on three different projects, and all three passed.

The capital projects database was released back in July as a means for the city to display transparency for ongoing infrastructure projects.
