(The Center Square) – The Shreveport Police Department broke ground on the third police substation on Thursday at Cedar Grove Park.
The department received a $1.79 million bid from Testament Construction in late August, which pushed the project forward.
This latest substation will house Shreveport Police Department Area Two officers and command staff. Funding for the project was authorized by voters to come from the 2021 Bond issue.
All three substations will be up and operable by the end of next summer, with the Monkhouse substation opened in early August of this year. Currently, the North Market substation is under construction. It is estimated to be completed by next spring.
The overall goal of the substations is to increase officer visibility in the community while also reducing response time on calls.
“The impact of these new substations will be immediate – placing officers directly within the communities they serve will reduce response times, increase visibility, and provide a much-needed economic boost to those areas. As crime continues to decline across the city, we believe the decentralization of police services is playing a major role in that positive trend,” Cpl. Chris Bordelon told The Center Square previously.
The three substations cost around $6 million.
