Shreveport Police join multi-agency operation to arrest fugitives

(The Center Square) — The Shreveport Police Department’s recent efforts in combating crime included a multi-agency operation last week.

The multi-agency operation focused on outstanding arrest warrants and public safety issues, specifically in Caddo Parish and Shreveport, according to a department press release.

The department collaborated with the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office, Caddo Parish Juvenile Services, Office of Juvenile Justice, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bossier Police Department, Louisiana State Probation and Parole, Louisiana State Police, ATF, FBI, District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“For years, numerous warrants, particularly related to traffic violations and truancy offenses, had remained unexecuted,” said the SPD. “This operation addressed these outstanding warrants and focused on reducing traffic accidents, juvenile crime, and violent crime within the region.”

The operation had four main objectives.

The department executed outstanding arrest warrants from Juvenile Courts, the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and SPD. They also addressed complaints concerning firearms, narcotics, sex crimes and domestic violence.

Those involved in the operation conducted probation searches and criminal patrols throughout Caddo Parish and Shreveport. Lastly, the SPD coordinated with the Bossier Police Department in apprehending fugitives who had attempted to flee across city lines.

Recent reports by the Shreveport Police Department show that reported crime is lower than it was this time last year, especially homicides.

“As we are experiencing a decline in our homicide rate, which means our city is much much safer, that trend continues,” said Police Chief Wayne Smith during last week’s administrative conference.

There have been 10 homicides this year as of April 21, which is significantly lower than last year’s reported 23 by that time.

Additional efforts to combat crime in the city consist of four bills in the Legislature concerning blighted structures and other issues the city is experiencing.
