Shreveport receives $1.7M construction bid for third police substation

(The Center Square) – Shreveport received a $1.79 million bid from Testament Construction for the Cedar Grove Park police substation, pushing the project forward.

“These substations reflect our commitment to stronger community policing and improved response times,” said Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux in a release.

The Monkhouse substation opened in early August, which Shreveport council member James Green called a “major event for District F.” The North Market Street substation remains under construction and is expected to be open next spring.

As progress continues with the third substation, the multi-million dollar substation projects are set for completion by late next summer. This substations were authorized by voters in the 2021 Public Safety Bond issue.

According to the department and Cpl. Chris Bordelon, the city will immediately feel the impact of these substations as officers are placed in the community. Police say this helps reduce response time, increase visibility and provide an economic boost to the areas where they are located.

In addition to the three new substations, the department recently constructed a new $28.5 million police headquarters. Overall, the department is continuing to make large strides toward an increased police presence to decrease crime rates.

“I want to thank the Perkins administration for initiating this project through the 2021 bond issue, and I am grateful to the citizens of Shreveport who supported it,” said Arceneaux. “Our administration is proud to carry this work forward and deliver on this important investment in public safety.”
