Two dead, another injured in small town Mississippi shooting

(The Center Square) – Two people are dead, and another was injured at a high school football game homecoming in Mississippi on Friday night.

At Heidelberg High School, the two bodies were found on the school baseball field and in a tailgating area near the bleachers. Jones County deputies took Tylar Jarod Goodloe, 18, into custody. At time of publication, no charges had been filed.

Robert Barnett, mayor of the community of less than 1,000, said the city, school district and sheriff’s office would work together toward justice. He said Heidelberg is “a safe place” and “this was an unforeseen incident.”

Gov. Tate Reeves said one of those shot was pregnant.

The shooting was one of three in small towns in the state associated with football games. In Leland, after a game, the community was gathering in town when gunfire left six dead and 10 injured.
