(The Center Square) – Twice named best state this decade, North Carolina was among a dozen top contenders in 2024 for Business Facilities State of the Year.
“As site selection decision-makers adapt to changing market conditions, we found it important to highlight states where hard work is paying off to build business-friendly climates,” said Anne Cosgrove, editorial director of the Business Facilities publication.
Virginia, winner also in 2018, is the 2024 top state. North Carolina was the 2020 and 2022 winner.
To North Carolina’s credit, Business Facilities wrote, “The state capitalizes on its stellar higher education system that includes 52 public and private universities, three Tier-1 research universities, and the third-large community college system in the U.S.”
Other contenders, listed alphabetically by the publication, were Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
Business Facilities bills itself as “a national publication that has been the leading location source for corporate site selectors and economic development professionals for more than 50 years.”
Thus far in the calendar year, the North Carolina Department of Commerce has delivered 52 announcements involving business newcomers, expansions or relocations.
