Carolinas governors named to council by president

(The Center Square) – Respective elected leaders of the Carolinas are among 10 named by President Donald Trump to the Council of Governors.

The nation’s 47th commander in chief shared the news late Wednesday night.

North Carolina Democratic Gov. Josh Stein and South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster are joined by Republican Govs. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, Ron DeSantis of Florida, Brian Kemp of Georgia and Jeff Landry of Louisiana; and Democratic Govs. Wes Moore of Maryland, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Kathy Hochul of New York and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania.

Youngkin and Stein are cochairmen.

A release from the White House says, “The Council of Governors was established by the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 and formally created by Executive Order 13528 in 2010. It serves as a key forum for governors and federal officials to enhance collaboration on disaster response, National Guard operations, and military integration within the states.”
