Cook appointed to succeed Brockman in North Carolina House

(The Center Square) – Amanda Cook, previously serving as an at-large member of the City Council in High Point, is the choice to replace former Rep. Cecil Brockman in the North Carolina General Assembly.

The Guilford County Democrat relinquished his seat Oct. 31 amid charges of statutory sex offense with a 15-year-old and two counts indecent liberties with a child. Cook was chosen by the Guilford County Democratic Party’s House District 60 executive committee. She’s a former public school teacher.

Chris Williams on Monday was appointed to fill Cook’s place on the City Council in High Point. The unexpired term runs through December 2027.

First-term Democratic Gov. Josh Stein this week appointed Cook to the House of Representatives for District 60. The term is through December 2026.

Cook operates the educational nonprofit The Teacher’s Edge. She’s already launched a campaign website for the 2026 cycle; filing begins Dec. 1.
