(The Center Square) – North Carolina is one of seven states where $5.6 million in advertising campaign dollars are being spent by Americans for Prosperity Action, the conservative super PAC said Tuesday morning.
“This election comes down to two paths,” said Nathan Nascimento, executive director of AFP Action. “One leads to higher taxes, more government and less freedom. The other leads to more choices, more opportunity, and more freedom. Our candidates are the ones leading on that second path – and we know it’s working, because we’re moving voters toward them every day at the doors.
“Given the choice between more government and more freedom, voters are choosing freedom.”
The U.S. Senate race in North Carolina matches Republican Michael Whatley against Democrat Roy Cooper. Whatley recently closed a gap in polling. Cooper, on Saturday in Raleigh, accepted campaign support from Democratic Socialists of America policies advocate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
The advertising campaign includes digital and streaming platforms. A release says it targets “persuadable swing voters weighing which candidate has a credible plan, and key pockets of the Republican base whose turnout is just as critical to holding the Senate majority.”
This U.S. Senate seat is a viewed as a major player nationally in the quest for majority in the chamber. Republicans have 53 seats today. In no particular order, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Maine, Iowa, New Hampshire, Alaska and Texas are the other top battlegrounds among 35 races.
The other states in this spend by AFP Action are Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, New Hampshire, Alaska and Montana.
Absentee ballots go into the mail Sept. 4 – four weeks from this coming Friday. North Carolinians will choose a U.S. senator, all 14 members of the U.S. House, and all 170 members of the General Assembly. Democrats have only 20 of 50 Senate seats and 47 of 120 House of Representatives seats.
