Foushee pushes for impeachment of Trump

(The Center Square) – North Carolina’s Democratic lawmaker from the 4th Congressional District has joined the choral refrains for impeachment of second-term Republican President Donald Trump.

In a social media post shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rep. Valerie Foushee wrote, “The sitting president just called for the end of an entire civilization. It’s time to impeach him.”

Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives during his first term. Each time, he was acquitted by the Senate.

Earlier Tuesday, the president spoke of his threat to Iran saying, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”

The United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran on Feb. 28. Trump has demanded the Strait of Hormuz to be open for shipping and declared a Tuesday evening (Eastern time) deadline with consequences of threats to the country’s oil, power plants and bridges.

“I’ve been proud to vote in favor of advancing articles of impeachment against Trump at every opportunity in this Congress,” Foushee said. “It’ll be my pleasure to do so again. It’s what the American people want.”

On dealings with Ukraine in 2019, Trump was impeached by the House for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. He was also impeached on charges of inciting the events of Jan. 6, 2021, at the Capitol.

Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green’s privileged resolutions to impeach Trump in 2017, 2018 and 2019 were tabled or defeated.
