Incentive package of $2.2M lures Lithuanian furniture maker

(The Center Square) – Incentives of $2.2 million locally and from the state of North Carolina have helped land new plant plans in Mocksville for the maker of furniture for IKEA.

SBA Home, a Lithuanian furniture company, plans a $70 million furniture factory that creates 250 jobs. Mocksville and Davie County anted up about $800,000 for the project incentives, and the state’s Economic Investment Committee on Tuesday approved a $1.4 million job development investment grant that will be distributed to the company over 12 years.

An additional $473,375 in state assistance from a fund that helps rural communities finance infrastructure upgrades to attract businesses is also part of the package.

The 500,000-square foot location will serve customers in the U.S., according to a release from the state. The company chose North Carolina in part of because of a “dynamic business environment,” CEO Jurgita Radzevičė said in a statement.

“With its wide talent pool, excellent infrastructure and logistics, support from the state, combined with SBA Home’s modern manufacturing expertise and humancentric organizational culture, we are confident this venture will create high-quality jobs and give positive impact to the region,” Radzevičė said. “We believe it further bolsters partnership between Lithuania and the United States, paving the way for innovation and shared success.”

Gov. Roy Cooper, in a release, said the state remains known as the futurnitue capital of the world attracking manufacturers. SBA worldwide has more than 3,000 employees and exports to 50 countries worldwide from its base in Lithuania.

“When they choose to expand into new markets, international companies want to operate in the best state in America,” state Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders said in a statement. “I envision a North Carolina that continues to be first in talent and innovation as we welcome industry game changers into our business community and create an economy that works for every North Carolinian.”
