Report: North Carolina climbs into top 15 in educational freedom

(The Center Square) – North Carolina climbed into the top 15 in educational freedom, a report from the Heritage Foundation said Tuesday.

The annual scorecard – in existence just four years – ranks the states for their educational freedom. Across five categories, the best rankings were No. 10 for return on investment and No. 11 for education choice.

The scores were 18th in civic education, 27th in transparency, and 29th in teacher freedom.

Overall, the state rose from 16th to 15th in the nation.

Florida, Arizona and Idaho were top three, respectively, of 50 states and the District of Columbia. Dead last at No. 51 was Maine, Rhode Island was 50th and Vermont 49th.
