Republican state leaders say justice system weaponized

Date:

(The Center Square) – Following the jury decision of a trial involving former President Donald Trump, North Carolina’s conservative political leaders in Raleigh had partisan reactions.

A sampling either via press statement or social media of those include:

Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a candidate for governor, said, “The Democrats know they can’t beat President Trump at the polls so they weaponize our government against him.”

Republican Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger didn’t comment but did retweet the Republican State Leadership Committee. It said, “The American people will see today for exactly what it is, the left weaponizing our legal system against President Trump. Joe Biden and Democrats can’t win on policy.”

Republican House Speaker Tim Moore said, “Today’s verdict is an affront to justice and to our country as we know it. Democrats are terrified of President Trump and know they cannot beat him in November.”

Late Thursday night, statements or social posts were not found for Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein, Senate Democratic Leader Dan Blue, or House Democratic Leader Robert Reives.
