Weatherby relocating, expanding in Triangle

(The Center Square) – North Carolina’s string of recruiting success in the healthcare industry continued Tuesday with announcement of a new expansion in Raleigh.

Weatherby Healthcare, Inc. a physician staffing company, will invest $7.6 million to expand its operations, creating 155 jobs, with the help of a $1.8 million state grant approved by a board Tuesday.

The jobs could have a payroll impact of more than $31.7 million each year for the Raleigh area, the state said. Most of the more than 370 people the company already employs in the state are in nearby Durham and will relocate to the North Hills area of town.

It’s the latest in a string of health-related companies to announce new operations in North Carolina.

“Weatherby has made a great decision to reinvest in North Carolina,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement. “Wake County sits in the heart of our state and is the home of an international airport and a highly educated workforce, making it an ideal location for corporate businesses.”

In addition to a 12-year, $1.8 million Job Development Investment Grant, Weatherby will also be eligible for $604,000 from the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account.

“The Utility Account helps rural communities finance necessary infrastructure upgrades to attract future business,” according to the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Weatherby, a subsidiary of CHG Healthcare, specializes in providing physicians to rural communities.

“The full-service staffing agency works with medical practices, hospitals, and healthcare facilities to coordinate and execute short-term contracts for healthcare professionals to cover for temporary absences for training, vacation, or medical leave,” the governor’s office said. “From housing and travel to licensing and credential requirements, Weatherby covers all aspects of physician placement to ensure complete, uninterrupted care for patients. Weatherby has become one of the largest physician staffing firms in the nation.”

Earlier this month, Janssen Biotech announced a decision for Wilson. It is a subsidiary of global giant Johnson & Johnson.
