(The Center Square) – From second to third, South Carolina’s administrative ratio remains among the best in the country in the Reason Foundation’s Annual Highway Report.
The Palmetto State was among the most cost-effective road systems, measuring condition, safety and costs of roads and bridges in all 50 states. In 12 other categories, South Carolina was first in both capital and bridge disbursements ratio and other disbursements.
Other scores into the 10 best were maintenance disbursements (third), administrative disbursements (fourth), urban interstate pavement condition (fifth) and urban other principal arterial pavement condition (sixth).
The worst categories were rural fatality rate (49th), other fatality rate (46th) and urban fatality rate (41st).
“In terms of improving in the road condition and performance categories, South Carolina should focus on reducing its fatality rates,” said Baruch Feigenbaum, lead author of the report and senior managing director of transportation policy at Reason Foundation.
Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio, respectively, were the top half of the top 10. They are followed by North Dakota, Connecticut, Alabama, Missouri and Utah.
