Early voting begins Wednesday in Tennessee congressional race

(The Center Square) — Early voting begins Wednesday in the contest to replace U.S. Rep. Mark Green, who represented Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District until his resignation in July.

Republican Matt Van Epps and Democrat Aftyn Behn staved off challengers in the Oct. 7 primary to vie for the seat, which Green first won in 2018. Green resigned on July 4 to take a job in the private sector, he said.

U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., previously represented the district before resigning to run for the Senate.

Van Epps is the former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services. Behn has served in the Tennessee House of Representatives since 2023.

Also on the ballot are independent candidates Teresa “Terri” Christie, Bobby Dodge, Robert James Sutherby and Jon Thorp.

The 14-county district covers Stewart, Montgomery, Robertson, Houston, Cheatham, Humphreys, Dickson, Hickman, Perry, Decatur and Wayne counties, along with parts of Benton, Davidson and Williamson counties.

Early voting ends on Nov. 26. Election day is Dec. 2.
