(The Center Square) – A former Warren County teacher and advisor was charged with theft, forgery, tampering with government records and official misconduct after allegedly misappropriating more than $1,000 from the school’s Future Business Leaders of America club.
Former teacher Jamie Branin was indicted by a Warren County jury Aug. 2. She resigned her job as a business teacher Feb. 14.
Branin is accused of misappropriated $1,431.54 from the FBLA’s annual County Meats sale fundraiser after an investigation from the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.
Branin is accused of turning in fundraiser reports she knew were incorrect after the sales.
Branin also collected student membership fees and conference fees but did not give them to the school’s bookkeeper, the reports said.
“School officials should take more steps to properly review fundraiser reports,” Tennessee Comptroller Jason Mumpower said. “This includes following up on inventory shortages, and receiving more detailed information when inventory is either given away or sold at a discounted price. Our investigators have met with school officials to provide recommendations on implementing stronger controls over these processes.”
