(The Center Square) – Tennessee’s unemployment rate for April is 3.6%, with 89 of the state’s 95 counties below 5%, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Maury County’s jobless rate is 6.1%. Ultium Cells announced last year that it was laying off 710 workers in January. Those workers could be headed back to work soon, as the company said in March it would retool its manufacturing plant and begin producing lithium-iron phosphate batteries for energy storage systems during the second quarter of 2026.
Lewis County had the second-highest rate at 5.8%.
The lowest unemployment numbers are in Cheatham and Dickson counties, where the April rate was unchanged from March at 2.6%.
Tennessee’s rate is lower than the national rate of 4.3%. The Volunteer State added 1,200 nonfarm jobs between March and April, according to the department. The construction sector had the largest gains.
Year over year, the state added 900 nonfarm jobs. The healthcare and social assistance sector added the most jobs, followed by the state government and administrative sector.
