(The Center Square) – Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’ office is looking to put together a group that that studies policies on Artificial Intelligence.
A news release from the Democrat’s office on Wednesday said that they are looking for applicants for a “steering committee” to tie the rapidly growing technology with local involvement. The application deadline is Jan. 24.
“The Governor’s Office aims to assemble a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experts from academia, industry, government, nonprofits, and the public. Committee members will play a pivotal role in ensuring responsible AI deployment across Arizona and fostering public-private partnerships in support of this effort,” the news release states.
The committee is looking for people who are knowledgeable “in AI technology, policy development, or community engagement” and are able to translate that into governmental “solutions.”
“This committee offers a unique opportunity to influence state-level AI policy while promoting transparency, public education, and responsible innovation,” the news release adds.
The committee’s formation is similar to efforts in other state governments on AI regulations, including a Senate Study Committee in Georgia and a report from the Virginia Joint Commission on Technology and Science in December.
Arizona is no stranger to the recent developments in artificial intelligence, as an anti-deepfake bill was passed into law last year, according to KOLD News 13.
