Four injured, one killed in collision of jets on ground at Scottsdale Airport

(The Center Square) – A collision on the ground of two private jets, including one owned by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, resulted in a pilot’s death and injuries to four other people Monday afternoon at Scottsdale Airport.

A Learjet 35A flying from Austin, Texas, veered off the runway after landing and crashed at 2:39 p.m. into a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet, said Kelli Kuester, aviation planning and outreach coordinator at the airport just east of Phoenix.

There was an apparent failure with the left main landing gear of the Learjet 35A, resulting in the collision, Kuester said during a televised news conference.

Kuester said further details on the crash would come from the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating.

Four people were on board the Learjet and one was on the Gulfstream, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA said a member of the flight crew on the Learjet, owned by Neil, died and that damage was substantial to both planes.

In addition to the flight crew, two passengers were on the Learjet, said Worrick Robinson, IV, a representative of Neil, a 63-year-old Nashville rock singer, in a statement on Instagram. He described the two flight crew members as pilots.

The Scottsdale fire and police departments, along with firefighters from Phoenix and Glendale, responded to the crash. First responders foamed down the aircraft to prevent fires, Gary Mascaro, the airport’s aviation director, said.

A total of five people were involved in the collision, including the one person who died at the scene, said Capt. Dave Folio, public information officer for the Scottsdale Fire Department.

During the news conference, Folio did not identify the person, noting that further details would come from the NTSB.

The other four people, including the sole occupant of the Gulfstream, were injured.

Two of the injured people were in critical condition and were taken to local hospitals, Folio said. One person with non-life-threatening injuries was also transported to a hospital.

One person refused treatment, Folio added.

One of the passengers on the Learjet was Neil’s girlfriend Rain Hannah Andreani, 43, who was among the four survivors injured in the collision, various media reported.

“Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today,” Robinson said Monday in his Instagram post.

The Scottsdale Airport closed the runway for hours Monday but reopened it shortly before 9 p.m.
