Report: Kari Lake to wage Senate bid against Sinema, Gallego

(The Center Square)– Republican Kari Lake is reportedly going to announce her run for United States Senate in Arizona on Oct. 10, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Shortly after the report, a media advisory was sent out from Lake’s team saying the former gubernatorial nominee is “expected to make an announcement about her future alongside thousands of Arizonans” with a rally in the Phoenix area.

Lake has been touring the country as a surrogate for former President Donald Trump in his own 2024 race to win back the White House, including by attending the Republican presidential primary debate in Simi Valley, California, Wednesday night.

“Trump is 2,295 miles away from the debate stage, & he’s all these people can talk about,” Lake posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This is a pointless screaming match between unserious people in serious times.”

The Republican, who was a former news anchor at FOX 10 Phoenix, would likely face a three-way race with incumbent Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and Democrat Ruben Gallego. Axios reported that if Sinema hops in for a re-election bid, she would likely target independent voters, as she left the Democratic Party in December.

As for other Republicans in the field, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is the only major declared candidate so far. Lake’s former primary rival, Karrin Taylor Robson, opted not to run, and former Senate nominee Blake Masters was reportedly considering a bid, according to WSJ, but it’s unclear if he’ll decide to do so.
