Endorsement: Trump says McGuire is better than Good

Date:

(The Center Square) – Virginia Rep. Bob Good was dealt a huge blow by former President Donald Trump, who chose to endorse challenger John McGuire against the U.S. House Freedom Caucus chairman.

Good and McGuire are in a contentious Republican primary matchup in the commonwealth’s 5th Congressional District.

Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to blast Good, saying he was “BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA.” The former president accused the congressman of turning his back on the Make America Great Again movement for presumably endorsing Trump’s former GOP primary challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement – But really, it was too late. The damage had been done!” the former president wrote.

Trump heaped praise on McGuire, calling him a “true American hero,” crediting him with fighting the drug cartels.

“I just want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that can most help me do that is Navy Seal and highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American hero. John, who fought the Cartels on the Front Line, and then came home and fought the drug dealers in Virginia, WILL ALWAYS PUT AMERICA FIRST,” he wrote.

Trump continued by touting his border policies while criticizing President Joe Biden, saying he and McGuire will be able to fix the border crisis.

Trump wrote, “I had the safest Border in history, built hundreds of miles of Wall, and then Crooked Joe Biden came along and ruined it, making it one of the worst human catastrophes ever in our Country. John and I will correct this situation, and fast!”

The former president rounded out his endorsement by praising McGuire’s support for the military and defending gun rights.

“[McGuire] is strong on crime, will protect our great Military/Vets, and will always defend our under siege Second Amendment. John McGuire has my Complete and Total Endorsement! MAGA2024,” Trump concluded.

McGuire was quick to thank the former president for his support.

Posting to social media site X, he wrote, “Thank you President Trump for endorsing my campaign for Congress! Together we will fight for We the People and Save America. We can do better than Good.”

Trump also endorsed Republican Virginia U.S. Senate primary candidate Hung Cao, a retired U.S. Navy captain.

Trump praised Cao’s military service and commitment to fixing the economy and the border.

“A Combat Veteran and Highly Decorated Special Operations Officer, Hung Cao will be a tireless fighter to stop inflation, grow our Economy, secure our Border,” Trump wrote. “Hung Cao has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN, AND WE WILL, AT THE SAME TIME, GET RID OF THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY, CROOKED JOE BIDEN!”

Virginia’s primary is set for June 18, with early voting already underway.
