Pritzker signs Mexico MOU

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has affirmed the state’s commitment to continued trade and manufacturing collaborations with Mexico.

Pritzker and a delegation of more than 70 people from the public and private sectors are in Mexico until April 2. The governor’s office announced the memorandum of understanding was signed with Mexico Gov. Delfina Gomez Alvarez and focuses on biotechnology and water resources.

Security grants for non-for-profits

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security announced $20 million in available grant funding for the second round of the Illinois Not-for-Profit Security Grant Program.

The taxpayer funds will help eligible organizations that are deemed at high-risk of a threat, attack or acts of terrorism implement enhanced safety measures. Officials said the funds must be used for target-hardening activities, which can be accomplished through the purchase or installation of security equipment.

National Guard competition this weekend

Soldiers and noncommissioned officers from throughout the Illinois Army National Guard will be competing in the Best Warrior Competition this weekend at the Sparta Training Center in Sparta.

Events include weapons events, an unknown distance run, a mystery event, high ropes confidence course, land navigation, and medical tasks. A road march will be the final event, beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday, with the awards presentations at approximately 11 a.m. The public is welcome.
