Wakanda Forever’ Begins Production in Atlanta

The untimely death of a young Chadwick Boseman has had the world at a loss for words for the man who to many was the real-life version of the brave character he played, Black Panther.

His death took the world by surprise and people were concerned that the “Black Panther” franchise would be in shambles due to Boseman’s untimely death. And many wondered how the Marvel franchise would move the project forward without Boseman tackling the iconic role.

According to Variety, the next step in the “Black Panther” cinematic world has been taken as movie production has actually commenced in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” which is the sequel to the Oscar-winning, billion-dollar blockbuster “Black Panther” has begun production on Tuesday. The filming of the movie is taking place at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta.

The director of the first film, Ryan Coogler, has returned to direct from his screenplay, and Marvel studio head Kevin Feige says that all the members of the original cast are back, except, of course, Boseman who passed away in August 2020 after losing a four year battle with colon cancer.

“It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” Feige stated before the “Black Widow” Global Fan Event in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Black Panther” when released in cinemas back in 2018, brought in $1.34 billion worldwide and became Marvel’s highest-grossing non-Avengers film of all time. It had also been the first superhero movie to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. “Black Panther” had earned seven Oscar nominations, and winning for Best Score, Best Costume Design, and Best Production Design.

Boseman was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and battled with it for four years as it progressed to stage IV. ⁣He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side.
