Vancouver announces new city manager to replace Eric Holmes

(The Center Square) – Following a five-month nationwide search, Vancouver, Wash., has found its next city manager.

Vancouver Deputy City Manager Lon Pluckhahn was announced as the next city manager, according to a Thursday news release.

The city council is set to vote on Pluckhahn’s appointment on Aug. 12. His appointment will be effective on Oct. 11.

“With his extensive experience in city administration and a proven track record of leadership, the Council is confident that Lon is uniquely qualified to lead Vancouver now and into the future,” Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle said in the news release.

According to contract details, Pluckhahn’s annual base salary will be set at $324,000, once approved by the city council. He is also set to receive a $15,000 signing incentive on his first regularly scheduled pay period “in recognition of the skills and experience Pluckhahn brings to the city manager position.”

Current City Manager Eric Holmes announced his retirement in late February. Holmes served the city for 17 years, 14 as the city manager.

Vancouver operates under a council-manager form of government, in which the city council appoints a city manager to serve as the city’s chief executive.

Pluckhahn brings experience in city management to his upcoming role, having served as deputy city manager for three years.

Prior to his time in Vancouver, Pluckhahn served as the city manager of Marion, Iowa, for nearly 15 years.

“Vancouver is a growing city with immense promise and potential, and I am deeply honored to serve as its next City Manager,” Pluckhahn said. “I look forward to collaborating with the community, city council, and our talented staff to help build on our current momentum with a focus on sustainability and community resiliency.”
