Georgia gas prices up slightly

(The Center Square) – Filling the gas tank in Georgia costs about a penny more today than last week, according to AAA.

The average cost for a regular unleaded gallon of gasoline is $2.91, the same as a month ago. The price is 31 cents a gallon lower than last year, according to the American Automobile Association.

“We’re only seeing a slight uptick in Georgia’s gas prices right now,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “With crude oil prices holding steady and summer travel tapering off, increases at the pump remain minimal as we head into the final days of the season.”

Demand dropped slightly from last week, from 9.04 million barrels a day to 9 million a day, according to AAA.

Georgia motorists are paying the most for gas in the Hinesville-Fort Stewart area at $3 a gallon. The least expensive gas is near the Tennessee border in Catoosa, Walker and Dade counties at an average of $2.75 a gallon, according to AAA.

Tennessee has the least expensive gas among Georgia’s border states at $2.75 a gallon. Florida has the highest fuel costs of the Peach State’s neighbors at $3.07 a gallon.

The national average is $3.13 a gallon. Oklahoma has the lowest average gas prices at $2.67. California again takes the top spot at $4.50 a gallon, according to AAA.
